A Love/Hate Relationship

So check out what came to live with me this weekend...

I mean honestly, for 25 bucks, how could I say no???

I'm kinda stuck on what to do with her. That's right, it's a she. Duh.

I'm actually strangely attracted to the "burnt" orange velvet...it's in great condition and I'm kind of into the citrus colors lately. All it would take is a fab lumbar pillow to complete her fabulousness...

On the other hand, how freakin' cool would she be in a great gray color in the front with a rad patterned fabric on the back and outside arms??? I know, amazeballs.

What would you do??? Love it, Hate it?

***Let's remember to take into consideration the fact that I will be undertaking this re-upholstering project myself and that as of yet, I have not done a sewing project on my own. It may or may not be a terrific *DISASTER*. Kind of exciting, isn't it??? (c:***

And any excuse to post some more fabulous tufting...(c:

Happy Monday!

Great chair!

What if you painted the wood white and then added a fun patterned pillow?

i like that chair. I bought a similar one for my parents and painted the wood beige...Happy new week!

Yeah, you really couldn't pass that up. And the fabric looks to be in great shape! I think a pillow would make it perfect...until you're ready to bite into the project!

Ohh great find! Maybe it's my recent post, but I'm into circus colors too right now. Thank you for your uber sweet comment. Sometimes I wonder if others get my random inspiration posts. Glad we're on the same page!

Btw I'd keep the mustard color and add a navy pattern pillow to contrast. Or you could try painting to re-finish. Just saw this on apartment therapy http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/chicago/before-after/before-amp-after-painted-upholstery-chair-makeover-144133.

I love that chair! Depends on your overall look. If you like to mix a bit of true vintage in, the color is perfect. If you prefer a more contemporary feel to it, then I'd consider the upholstery. Love it when I see a patterned fabric on the back! Or... of course, there is always painting it. Ha! Can't wait to see what you do. Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a message!

Great find! I have a "great find" sitting my garage too..14.99, I couldn't pass it up. I think yours would be incredible with the wood painted and a fun fabric on the upholstery. Good luck, I can't wait to see how it turns out.

oooh....lovely.

Amazing find!! Why don't you get a nice pillow and call it a day. If you already like the fabric then don't give yourself that heartache that would be a reupholstering job. If you change your mind later, tackle it then. You can glam it up and it will feel very retro chic.

I prefer the second version, with citrous color pillow, with gray triming. Ghange the pillow whenever you desire, and you have a complete new look. I adore pied'poule maybe it would work to! Anyway great find i'm sure it will turn out fab.

Wow -- find of the year! I personally would maybe paint the wood, then get a little throw pillow for it. I'm with you though, I kind of like the color.

I'm kinda digging the color as is too. Why not just lacquer the legs and arms? White? My cousin reupholstered her own chair, with tufting, and she cried. Took her months to finish and it looks great, but she said never again. More power to you if you can cross it off your list.

I know you said you like the orange, but I think I would fine a fun, bold print to reupholster!

What a great find! I would not pass that up either. You could totally keep it orange for now until you found a fabric that you could not pass up and reupholster it.

Hi Aubrey!! I ran across your blog a while back, but been lurking. I’ve always say to myself, “today’s the day I’m going to comment,” but then I chicken out…well not today! Yay!! …anyway, I noticed that you have done some DIY projects at home (like that fab chair you reupholstered)…if you do any more DIY projects (*ahem*likethischair*cough*), do you think you can show us how you did them? I’m trying to redecorate my house, but on a budget (who isn’t, right?). I like to think I’m decoratively challenged, but thanks to your blog I’m gettin’ some good ideas. And…. and…I’ll start commenting more. I love your new chair, but I think I’m in love with those pink chairs!!

Have a good day!!!

That's a great find. I love that color too. I agree - get a fun pillow and call it good. Oh...and maybe a pretty blanket. Hope you have a lovely week.

Lovely chair and you can't beat the price. Good luck re-upholstering it. I love gray so I say go for it. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Alright, I totally 100% think you should GO FOR IT and live out your dream for this chair. Bc as you said, it would be amazeballs. And while it's nice as is, don't we only want "amazeballs" in our homes?! I see a project post in your future ;)

I love it!! Looks like a reupholster job i did just 2 weeks ago.. we went with a clean fabric that had varying shades of gray geometric shapes. You can tell the job was done by 2 upholstery virgins, but hey we had fun! http://moderndaycrafts.blogspot.com/2011/03/chair-upholstery-virgins.html Good luck, i can't wait to see how it turns out.

I'm so excited either way!!! Thanks for all the feedback, y'all!!!

And Kayleigh, you cute girl you! I'm blushing. But also when I reupholstered my wingback, I just googled "reupholster a wingback chair" a fabulous tutorial with pictures and everything! This is the link: http://www.mormonchic.com/crafty/wingback.asp...the only thing was they said like **11** yards of fabric (which is ridiculous) and I'm pretty sure I ordered like 6 and it was *fine*! It was a LOOOOOONG project for me, but it was seriously fun!

I'd paint the wood and leave the fabric. A throw pillow in the back and you're good to go!!

I guess it depends on where you want to put her. I am not loving the current state of the chair but I do see that she could be fab.

Natalie {Designer Bags and Dirty Diapers} said...

I am so jelly you found this fabulus chair for $25!! I kind of love the velvet but I picture it in a gorgeous geometric pattern fabric. Either way "she" is beautiful!

Abby M. Interiors said...

This chair is fantastic!! I'm so jealous you found it. I think once you live with the chair for a few days you'll know what to do. Either way I think it will be gorgeous!

What a great find! I would leave the fabric as-is, unless there is some major wear and tear. I think a throw pillow will jazzy that baby up perfectly!

Kristine - A Graceful Home said...

Either way would work! You know I love some graphic patterns...but the orange is a great color too! You could always live with the orange for awhile and when you get tired of it you can give her a killer makeover! You'll know what to do! You've got great taste!

Gabriella {sensiblyluxe} said...

I am actually rather in love with the color. Perhaps a throw or one of those little log-shaped pillows to jazz it up? I agree with Kristine on living with the orange for a while and only changing it up when you're sick of it.
PS Thank you for that lovely comment on my blog. It added happiness points to the evening.

Btw, Haute Khuuture just celebrated the 1-year mark and I'm celebrating with a HUGE giveway! Would love to see you stop by when you get a chance!

Happy Tuesday hun!

I actually really like the orange, it could be a fun pop in a neutral room. It'll look good no matter what color it is though, awesome find!

25? That's it? Amazing. I like the burnt orange, personally.

DeAnn said...

i like! I would paint the wood and I think it would up date it nicely. Leave the fabric and get a pillow like you said. Where did you get it? you can't beat the price!

Aubrey {All Things Bright and Beautiful} said...

Thanks D! And I got it at DI...awesome, right? I've completely fallen in love with the chair as is and I'm just totally going to get a pillow and call it a day (c:
