Guest Post: Name 5 Things!!!

I'm so happy to introduce Emily from Name 5 Things with her absolutely lovely home today! This is one *busy* girl! She is an attorney, a DIYer, a wife, and doggy mommy, and has a fantastic blog that I love! I'm really not sure how she finds the time to do all that she does, but all of it is AMAZING. It doesn't hurt that she is absolutely adorable and every time I see one of her comments, I just automatically smile (c:

I was thrilled when the amazing Aubrey asked me to participate in this fun series. I have enjoyed reading about how others make their houses their own and am excited to share my thoughts.

Let's start first with the kitchen.  No matter how many people we have over (and how many times we encourage them to move into the living room), everyone always congregates in the kitchen.  Having an open kitchen (with a settee and ottomans) makes hanging out in the kitchen more comfortable.  We've made lots of fun memories in this area hanging out with family and friends.

I am also a big fan of sentimental touches around the house.  The frames you can see on the wall in the picture above actually hold hand-written family recipes.

And speaking of things with meaning, this bookshelf is full of them.  I have old books that belonged to my grandfather, a silhouette of my grandparents, vintage finds from various trips, and a vase full of corks (we generally try to write on the corks who we were with or what was going on that night).

Lastly, every home needs a place where you can decompress from the day.  Mine is certainly here in our bathtub.  We've made the space a little more personalized by painting a trellis pattern on the wall and adding a chandelier.

This series reminds me of a great quote I came across recently by Ted Carpenter:  "What I love most about my home is who I share it with."  And of course, my home is what it is because I share it with my wonderful husband and these two cuties.

I've found that sharing your home with family and friends and filling it with the things you love really are the best ways to make your home your own. Thanks so much Aubrey for having me today!

Thanks so much for all that inspiration, Em! I *LOVE* that recipe art idea...I hardly even ever think about fun art for in the kitchen area, but that is just brilliant. And Emily, I'm headed over to try out that fabulous looking tub...that's okay, right? (c:

And I have to say that I am COMPLETELY envious of her new Cocoa & Hearts painting...it is SO FANTASTIC.
While you are there drooling over the painting, you should find all of the fantastic DIY projects she has done...her blog is just *full* of great ideas...(c:

And up tomorrow:

Marci from Timber and Lace!

the framed recipes are such a lovely idea! i can imagine everyone rummaging through their grandmother's receipes this weekend! And I tried to install a chandelier above my new bathtub and the contractor wouldn't let me...he said it wouldn't pass code. I was so bummed; hers is beautiful!

I love miss Emily and her stenciled walls are so fabulous. I keep saying one day I am going to stencil mine but then I get lazy and decide to have a glass of wine instead! Gorgeous home with beautiful family touches!
