Whenever I think about my future dining room, I always think about a *BIG*, long dining table that can fit about 12 people comfortably. Hey, eating is *important*!
Eating with family is even more important and I can't wait to have a big huge dining room with that big ol' table...however, I'm noticing that a lot of the pictures that I'm drawn to are round tables and well, I just don't feel like they can accommodate as many peeps.
What do you think?
Are you a "Knights of the Round Table" kind of person?
Or are you a good ol' farmhouse table kind of dining room-er?
I hope everyone had a fabulous 4th...I spent mine eating BBQ and homemade peach ice cream and then watching fireworks from the car with a little munchkin perched on my lap exclaiming "OOOO! A pink one! My favorite!". All of them were pink...a girl after my own heart!
Love round tables, especially with glass tops, chic and pratical. I absolutly love the airness and lightness it gives to any room, it´s also the quickest way to update a room. Xoxo

ReplyDeleteI prefer square or rectangle tables-we have a big round table in our kitchen and my Mom will go on and one about how it causes center pieces to block people's faces, is surprisingly not that conducive to conversation, and is hard to find tablecloths to fit it. So U say rectangle for all the reasons above!
ReplyDeleteI'm so indecisive, can I choose both? I have a round in my kitchen and a rectangular in the dining room. But you know what I adore, oval, haha. The only problem with a giant table, of any shape really is that it requires so many chairs. Buying 12 chairs is kind of boring, I would rather buy 12 different things KWIM. But I'm not totally sold on a variety of chairs at the table. Maybe I'm more matchy-matchy that I profess to be.
ReplyDeleteI have both in my home. A round smaller table for more intimate family gatherings - we can only seat up to 6). And then I have a longer rectangular table for the larger crowds - which I love. We can seat up to 12.
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious, because I think about the SAME thing all the time. What I've decided is that in my someday house, I'll have a long dining room table and a round table in my breakfast room.
ReplyDeleteMy dad(who could give two hoots about design) is always talking about a friend of their's who has a round dining table. He said he loves that you can see everyone at the table and converse with all dinner party attendees and not just the people sitting next to/across from you.
I'm going to go with....depends on the table?
I would have to say my preference depends. I am more of a long table person but at weddings and big events I think they have to be shorter not longer in order to keep convos flowing. its hard to hold a convo when you have to shout 10 chairs away.
ReplyDeleteI like both! A long table has often room for more people sitting around it, but then again, a round table is so social. I also think it depends on the room it self...

Long table all the way kinda girl here. LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI've always been a round table girl, but you might be swaying me the other way with all of the gorgeous long tables today! Definitely a MUST for large families or a lot of entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of a round pedestal dinner table, but a long rectangular table is definitely a better choice if you plan to have lots of big family dinners.
ReplyDeleteLove all the beautiful dining areas in your inspiration pictures :-)
I love the look of the long rectangular table!! I love round tables as well, I guess it just depends on the space of the room. Great photos, so much dining room inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love all of those, the one outside with the different chairs is my fav :)
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely tables & table settings! I love the dark ones.
ReplyDeleteI have a round table so of course now I dig the long rectangle tables. You always want what you don't have right??
ReplyDeleteI love the one with all the different chairs, so chic! I think I've always been a rectangle person, but then again, that's what I've always had :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a round table kinda girl so everyone can talk together! But with our whole family it'd have to be the size of 6 long tables!!
ReplyDelete(ps..i used that same image with the arch and orange chairs in a guest post 2morr! we sure have the same interior styles! ;)
I'm definitely a rustic farmhouse table kind of gal, although right now it's more a hand me down table/ whatever I can get.
ReplyDeleteWow. Love the slate blue of that 1st kitchen the pops of chartreuse below. Great blog! Newest follower. Xx
ReplyDeleteOur dining room is tiny and we never use it. But, my parents have a great one with a rustic-ish table and white laquered chipendale chairs. It's freakin awesome.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the big, long farmhouse table. Especially with mismatched chairs. It just looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! To me, long is for dining rooms and round is for breakfast nooks. I guess if it's big enough it can work, but I don't think I've seen one!
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration pics!
I dream of having a dining room large enough for a big round table. LOVE! No one is blocked and they are so conducive to sitting and talking forever. Great images.
ReplyDeleteI have a round table in my breakfast room, which I love because it seems more intimate and casual, and I have an oval one in my dining room. In order to not look too matchy matchy, I have six matching chair and two that are different at the heads of the table...love the look!! Can't wait to see what you choose ~
ReplyDeleteI'd love a round dining table, but the one I currently have is rectangular. Maybe my next one will be round :)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely farmhouse all the way. Honestly I'd take almost any one of these though :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a round and I love it but I wouldn't say no to a farmhouse table. I love those too!
ReplyDeletehave a round one in the breakfast nook, but for actual dinner parties we're farmhouse all the way. round works when it's semi-small...BIG round is so uncomfortable because you're limited to the person on either side of you...you can't talk to the peeps across from you. besides, rectangle is perfect because you can slap on extra tables end to end with tablecloths.
ReplyDeletei don't even know what my favorite is! i love the outdoor table with the different color chairs!
ReplyDeleteI am a rectrangle kind of gal! Right now I have a 10ft rectangle table that I love, but what I would love more is to have one that is let's say 25ft so that way i can fit everyone on it. I love sitting down at the table with my family enjoying everyone's company and great food.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think round tables are much better for conversation but they can be hard to fit in a space. The rectangular tables seem to fit better...all of these images are great though! Glad you had a great 4th...the peach ice cream sounds sooooo yummy! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't even think I can fit 12 people in my living room.
ReplyDeleteOkay, that's an exaggeration, but I can barely fit six in my dining.
I'll take that greek key area rug even if it was the only thing in my house.
I really can't say I have a preference for round or rectangular tables. Either one would do perfcetly in the right space. Absolutely love the first three you've selected. Large family meals are such a joyous time. :)
ReplyDeleteAda
Farm House Table ALL the way! i do like round tables for a little breakfast nook though
ReplyDeleteSo lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou've got a really cute blog, maybe you'd like to follow each other?

We have a large rectangular table that has 6 spots and it has 2 more, what are those things called?, inserts? I know that's not it but that's what I'm going to call them today. It has 2 more inserts so we can fit like 12-14 people, and we have! It's a little craziness but so fun! I guess I'm a farmhouse kind of girl! :)
ReplyDeleteI cover mine with cloths, so I spent less time worrying about the table and more time thinking about the chairs. I love the looong one with the mismatchy colorful chairs--I've done the same thing. I buy them old then paint 'em up!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a round table but I crave one. I love the idea that when you have a group of people you can all talk together as opposed to just the people at your end of the table. Maybe it doesn't really work that way but in my fantasy dinner party it does:)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving my round table right now, but it only sits 4. Down the road (assuming I have a family and more friends) I'll def go back to a farm style table.
ReplyDeleteI love the chandeliers in the dining room with the green chairs!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images. That first one just sucked me right in. And, I love how graphic the last one is!
ReplyDeleteI love the outdoor table and all the mix and match chairs. Throw up some lanterns and we can have a summer party like right now!
