Guest Post: Hazardous Design!!!

I have a secret.

I desperately want to buy an old house and completely overhaul it into something amazing.

Well, Carrie and her hubby are doing just that over at Hazardous Design!!!

I am always a sucker for a great before/after...but Carrie's are flippin' *INSANE*...girl has got some design chops and I couldn't be more thrilled that she is sharing her fantastic projects today!  Not only are they completely gifted in the home remodeling department, but Carrie is just full of fantastic ideas and inspiration, I always love seeing what she has to say!

I mean really, is there anything more charming than an old house?
What about old house charm with new design panache???
Then we have hit the motherload. (c:

When Aubrey asked me to guest post about what makes the house a home, I had to stop and think for a minute. We've been remodeling our home room by room since we moved in about 10 months ago. For us, home has meant living with tools on the kitchen table, late night take out, and drywall dust everywhere! Remodeling certainly isn't for everyone, but it is giving us the opportunity to put our personal stamp on every room in our house to make it our home.

For instance, our home office looked like this when we first looked at the house.

It wasn't awful, but we had a different vision in mind.

A bright, sunny space with lots of color is definitely more "us".

In our bedroom, we needed to get rid of all the ways the previous owner made the house his home. He was an avid sailor and used this as his motif to decorate.

We toned down the yacht club vibe so that it became a restful spot for us to relax at night.

Our powder room is probably the best example of how we've made our house our home. Because the plan is to stay here a while, we decided to go really bold with some of our choices.  And clearly we just couldn't live with it looking like this...

So we made it look like this.

With every room we complete, we're turning this house into our home.

Regardless of the dust and construction debris we live through from time to time, home will always be the place my husband and I enjoy coming to at the end of a long workday. Especially when we're greeted by these two little monsters with their tongues hanging out and tails wagging :)

Can you even believe that is the same house???

And every time I see that powder room I want to curse the fact that we are renters and can't wallpaper. It looks so *aaaaaaaamazing*.

Thanks so much Carrie for sharing the fantastic transformation here! And if you just can't get enough, the transformation is still going on at Hazardous Design...and you should definitely check out their latest project: the Mudroom Makeover!

And up tomorrow:

  8. Carrie's blog is great! And I couldn't agree more that the BEST home is where the people (and pets!) you love are. I like my decorating projects, but this house would be totally lame without my husband and our kitties. :)

  20. The bathroom is gorgeous. Love the wallpaper and the baroque stile mirror.

Our friends bought a complete reno house and what they thought would take five months until it was livable took over a year!!! It's still not completely finished and they haven't even started on the furniture. Never again, they said. But they do have a home to call their own.
