Guest Post: Our Fifth House!!!

One fine day while surfing through the blogosphere, I stumbled on this absolutely amazing dining room and was instantly in love. Problem was, I had no idea who it belonged to until my clumsy self found Carmel's fantastic blog, Our Fifth House! And I finally knew who owned that fab dining room and the rest of this fantastic home...I mean honestly, can you look at the ikat on that dining room wall and not fall in love???

And to add entertainment to fabulousness, she is darn funny, too. (c:

Hello there, I'm Carmel from Our Fifth House.

It's so nice to meet you!  I was seriously flattered when Aubrey invited me over to be apart of this awesome series!  She's had some amazing bloggers participate over here!

I've moved 6 times in the last 11 years; and I'm currently living in my fifth house, hence the blog name - genius right?!  We're finally settled (we think) so making this house our home is really exciting!  My home is hardly finished as we just celebrated our first year of living in our fifth house, and with two kids, two dogs, and a very opinionated husband these things tend to take a really long time!

I personally feel that what makes a house a home has a lot to do with meal time.  I don't know why, but for me there is just something about breaking bread together.  Family meals are really important to me, so I wanted my dining room to be an inviting place in our home.  I didn't want it to be too formal so that we would use for more than just holiday meals.  (It works out great because my kitchen table is usually filled with projects!)

I love vignettes that have a special meaning.  My wedding bouquet was a bunch of calla lilies, so this black and white print is really special to me.

The hubs works from home so creating a space for him to work was really important.  I love a room that tells a story.  This office/man cave really gives you a glimpse into his world and showcases what he loves.  He's my modern, 60's inspired-design loving man!

Our family room is undergoing a bit of a transformation at the moment.  It's a room that we use quite a bit, so I'm constantly tweeking.   I framed pictures taken of landscapes and historical sites here in Kentucky (which is where we live) from a coffee table book to create a gallery wall.

Truly though, regardless of pretty spaces and personal-to-you-art filled walls, what really makes our house a home is just spending quality time with each other!  Even though I have a list a mile long of things I'd still like to do our house, I'll relax on the couch and watch a movie with the family in a heartbeat!

Thanks for having me Aubrey!  Feel free to stop by Our Fifth House.  We're currently having bamboo floors installed......

and my dining room looks like this at the moment!

I just keep telling myself - it's not a race, it's a marathon - slow down and enjoy the ride or uh er sawdust :)

Thanks so much for being here, Carmel! Don't you just love the Mad Men meets vintage office??? You know I do...those tripod lamps are just *killing* me!

And to round out this fantastic week:

Ana from Home Styling tomorrow...you definitely won't want to miss this one, either!!!
