Guest Post: Hi Sugarplum!!!!

I am just going to say that this is one talented girl. Don't let the modesty fool you, she can *definitely* hold her own in the design world and it was her AMAZING DIY projects that got me into her blog in the first place! Her blog is a must read for me, if for nothing else than to laugh my rear off because she is super funny and sassy. Just the way we like it, right?

Without further ado, the dazzling Cassie and her lovely abode:


Hello! I'm Cassie from Hi Sugarplum! and I'm thrilled to be participating in this series for Aubrey. I'll admit, I was a bit intimidated when she asked me to share how I make my home 'mine.' I'm fairly new to the Blog World, and sometimes feel like an impostor amongst all the talented design bloggers. I'm not a professional designer, nor do I have any formal training...but I know what I like!
And while I love to drool over gorgeous room photos like these:

They are neither practical for an active family with two young kids (the Sugarplums), nor within a typical budget! So I simply use photos of gorgeous rooms as inspiration, but strive to make our home comfortable, livable and still stylish, without going into debt doing it!

I do this by choosing furniture people are actually allowed to sit on, shopping smart at stores like Ikea and Home Goods, and of course, doing as many as the projects myself. I also like to personalize our home by decorating with images we created.
The kids each have areas in their room for art, but we also rotate favorite pieces in these large inexpensive frames that permanently sit on a shelf in the breakfast room.

And Mr. Sugarplum and I like to enlarge our favorite photos from trips (typically to 11x14 using Snapfish). Once framed and grouped together (Ikea Ribba frames, no less!), they look much better than any piece of art we could afford. Plus we have the added bonus of gazing at beautiful memories.

A sweet sentiment takes on a whole new feel when matted and framed as well. The 'You Are All I Need' is hanging where we each see it every day...the water closet!
The best advice I can offer is to remember it is your house...for just you and your family. So fill it with things you love, surround yourself with comfort, and make it a place you can't wait to return.
